A project aimed at giving buses a faster route through St Helier and easing traffic congestion is set to begin on Monday.
According to the Government of Jersey, the works will focus on the Esplanade, with the first phase due to continue until January.
Infrastructure Minister Constable Andy Jehan said the scheme would allow west-bound buses to move “much more quickly,” helping to reduce pressure at the Castle Street roundabout. He added that the improvements would also enhance the area with new greenery, seating, and a bus shelter.
No road closures are planned while the works are carried out.
Kevin Hart, director of LibertyBus, welcomed the initiative, saying the new Western Bus Gate could save passengers up to five minutes on peak-time journeys.
The Esplanade improvements mark the first of three phases in a wider programme to make bus travel more efficient across the capital.
