DFDS Introduces Replacement Ferry on Jersey-Portsmouth Route

DFDS has deployed a replacement vessel, the Côte d’Albâtre, to operate on the Jersey–Portsmouth route as part of its ongoing service rollout.

The 143-metre-long conventional ferry, a sister ship to the Seven Sisters—which carried out port trials in St Helier last October—will make her inaugural sailing from Portsmouth on Thursday morning. She’s expected to dock in Jersey at 8pm before returning to the UK at 10pm.

Ports of Jersey has confirmed that the Côte d’Albâtre will be the largest passenger vessel ever to operate regular services to and from the island. The change in vessel comes after DFDS had to cancel Wednesday night’s service to reposition contingency vessels. The company apologised for the disruption.

Route Director Chris Parker said:“We apologise to customers affected by these changes and appreciate their understanding and patience at this time. Our focus remains on ensuring our passengers can travel with minimal disruption.”

As part of the reshuffle, the Stena Vinga has been reassigned to the St Malo route while the Tarifa Jet fast ferry remains docked, pending final clearance to begin operations. Originally scheduled for its maiden voyage on Friday, 28 March, the vessel required further work following an inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). It is now expected to enter service next week.

The update comes at a critical time for island travel, with the Easter school holidays beginning Friday, 4 April, prompting a surge in passenger demand.

DFDS officially took over Jersey’s ferry operations from Condor Ferries earlier this year under a 20-year agreement. Condor had served the island for over 60 years.
