DFDS Adds Ferry Sailings as Strong Winds Threaten Channel Island Crossings

DFDS is preparing additional ferry services between Jersey, France and the UK as strong winds threaten to disrupt crossings throughout the week and into the October half-term holiday period.

The operator has confirmed that several sailings have already been cancelled, with further services under review as weather conditions develop.

To help passengers affected by the disruption, DFDS is planning an additional high-speed return crossing between Jersey and St Malo on Monday, 26 October. An extra sailing by Stena Vinga on the Portsmouth route is also planned for Sunday, 25 October. Both services will depend on weather conditions and operational requirements.

The company is also reviewing departure times to make the most of suitable weather windows, while working to maintain essential freight links to Jersey.

Efforts are under way to keep goods moving through the use of DFDS freight vessel Caesarea Trader. The operator is assessing whether the vessel can reach Jersey on Wednesday or Thursday, with more difficult conditions expected on Friday.

Chris Parker, DFDS Route Director for Jersey, said some disruption was unavoidable given the forecast strong winds across the Channel Islands.

He acknowledged the inconvenience for passengers, particularly families travelling during the school holidays, and said teams were working to reduce the impact wherever possible.

DFDS is looking at additional crossings and timetable adjustments when conditions permit, while emphasising that safety remains the priority for both passengers and crew.

Passengers affected by cancellations or schedule changes are being contacted directly by DFDS. Anyone planning to travel over the coming days is advised to check the latest sailing updates before travelling to the Harbour.
