Jersey table tennis centre reopens after storm damage

The Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre in Jersey has reopened nearly three years after it was damaged by Storm Ciarán and its 100mph winds in November 2023.
Eleni Middleton, president of the island’s Table Tennis Association, said the reopening was an exciting moment after a difficult period for the local table tennis community.
Players had been forced to use alternative venues, including Fort Regent and St Clement, while repairs were carried out.
The centre celebrated its return with a Top 12 tournament featuring junior players from across the island.
Sixteen-year-old player Theo said the closure had been devastating, as the sport offered an important opportunity to socialise outside school. He thanked supporters and donors who helped bring the centre back into use.
Funding came from the States of Jersey, Jersey Property Holdings and public donations.
Middleton said she also hoped to encourage more women and girls to take up the sport.
