Jersey’s Royal Square will once again be the setting for the Corn Riots Festival, a lively celebration of the 1769 protests that paved the way for significant reforms on the island.
The original Corn Riots were sparked by soaring grain prices and widespread food shortages, prompting islanders to demand fairer regulation and greater access to affordable bread. Their demonstrations became a turning point in Jersey’s political history.
In modern times, the festival has evolved into a showcase of heritage, creativity, and community spirit. This year’s programme features local choirs and bands, historical reenactments, and food stalls, offering visitors a mix of culture and entertainment.
The festivities will run from midday until 10pm on Saturday 27 September, and continue until 8pm on Sunday 28 September.
Organisers say the full programme and further details are available online.
