Jersey Charities Urge Government for Stronger Collaboration and Support

The Association of Jersey Charities (AJC) is calling for better cooperation between the government and local organisations, alongside longer-term funding and greater political recognition of the sector’s value.

A report compiled using data from nearly 90 charities highlights the need for strategic collaboration to tackle Jersey’s social challenges. AJC chair Marcus Liddiard expressed hope that the findings would drive meaningful change.

"The relationship between government and charities is crucial for our island’s success," Liddiard said, emphasizing that working together equitably would lead to better outcomes for the community.

The report underlines the vital role charities play in understanding community needs, while the government holds the resources and policymaking power to enact change. The AJC is encouraging dialogue between charities, officials, and stakeholders to implement its recommendations.

Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Farnham welcomed the report and its proposals, acknowledging the essential role charities and volunteers play in Jersey’s society. He highlighted that more than £30 million in public funding was allocated to the sector last year and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with charitable organisations.
