Channel Islanders Face Age Verification Problems After Latest iPhone Update

iPhone users in Guernsey and Jersey are reporting problems verifying their age following the release of Apple’s latest software update.

The iOS 26.4 update introduces new security measures requiring users to confirm they are aged 18 or over. To do this, Apple asks for verification using a credit card or official identification.

However, the new requirements are based on recent changes to UK law, which do not apply in the Channel Islands.

Some islanders say they have been unable to complete the verification process, with Guernsey and Jersey driving licences reportedly not being accepted. Users have also said that citizenship cards and passports issued in the islands are being rejected.

The issue has left some people unable to adjust certain settings on their devices, particularly within the “Content & Privacy Restrictions” section.

With concerns growing, iPhone users in the Channel Islands are being advised to delay updating their devices until the situation becomes clearer.

Apple has been contacted for comment.
