JERSEY – Ballet d’Jèrri will make its long-awaited debut on the main stage of the newly restored Jersey Opera House this evening (24 October), marking a major milestone for the local dance company.

The company returns with a double bill: Footsteps, an exploration of the connections that shape our lives, and Sand and Their Castles, a playful, poetic reflection on the transition from childhood to adulthood.

Both works come from acclaimed international choreographers Garrett Smith and Tess Voelker, whose innovative styles have earned global recognition.

A Homecoming Performance

Audiences will have three opportunities to see the performances this weekend — opening night on Friday, followed by a matinee and evening show on Saturday (25 October).

Artistic Director Carolyn Rose Ramsay described the event as both a celebration and a homecoming for the company.

“We’re so excited to finally be performing there,” she said. “Our studio is upstairs, so to be able to come downstairs and perform on that beautiful stage feels really special.”

Ramsay added that the company is proud to be part of the Opera House’s revival:

“We feel the weight of responsibility to keep the building alive and vibrant. Ballet d’Jèrri was founded on the belief that dance should belong to everyone, and we want to make sure we’re reaching the whole community.”

Accessible to All

In keeping with that philosophy, tickets are being offered under a ‘Pay What You Can’ scheme, with prices starting at just £5, to make the performances accessible to as many islanders as possible.
