The Government of Jersey will take over the management of AquaSplash from October 2026, as part of plans to bring the leisure centre under the island’s Active programme.

The move means that Serco (Jersey) Ltd, which has managed AquaSplash for almost 25 years, will hand over operations to the government following a review into the facility’s efficiency.

Infrastructure Minister Constable Andy Jehan said the change would deliver better value for taxpayers and help secure the pool’s long-term future.

“I am pleased to welcome AquaSplash into the family of our Government of Jersey Sport facilities from next October,” he said.“This change will deliver better value for taxpayers and ensure that AquaSplash can continue to operate as normal and serve the public.”

Active already manages four other swimming pools across Jersey.

A spokesperson for Serco expressed disappointment at leaving AquaSplash after nearly a quarter of a century but said the company understood the government’s decision.

“We fully understand the need for the Government of Jersey to deliver operational efficiencies in its leisure facilities,” they said.“We are very proud of our achievements in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities and will continue to work with the Government of Jersey to ensure a smooth transition in 2026.”

The government said it recognised the announcement might cause concern among AquaSplash staff, but confirmed that employees would be offered roles within the Active team.

Constable Jehan added that the transition process would begin as soon as possible, with efforts made to retain existing employees where possible.

Members of AquaSplash will be able to continue using their memberships until 30 September 2026. A new membership scheme will launch the following month when the government formally assumes control.
