Jersey Zoo has launched a new £6 admission ticket aimed at making visits more affordable for islanders receiving Income Support.

The discounted tickets must be booked online in advance, with visitors asked to show proof of eligibility when they arrive at the wildlife park.

The zoo said the move is designed to widen access and ensure more people can enjoy the attraction, bringing it in line with other major UK zoos such as London Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo and Chester Zoo, which have introduced similar schemes to improve inclusivity.

Terry Woodhouse, head of retail and visitor experience at Jersey Zoo, said the initiative was about helping more people connect with nature while supporting conservation efforts.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy a great day out at Jersey Zoo, reconnect with the natural world, learn about Durrell, and play a part in our mission to save species from extinction,” he said.

The Income Support ticket was developed in partnership with local services and community groups, with feedback suggesting visitors preferred the discretion and ease of booking online ahead of time.

Alongside the new scheme, the zoo has introduced revised child ticket categories. Admission for children aged three to 10 costs £10.50, or £9 when booked in advance, while tickets for those aged 11 to 16 are priced at £16.50, reduced to £14.40 when purchased online.

Entry remains free for children aged two and under. Standard adult tickets cost £21, or £18.90 when booked in advance, with concessionary rates set at £18.90, reduced to £17.01 for advance bookings.
