Fort Regent Redevelopment Plans Set for February Release

The Jersey Development Company (JDC) is expected to release plans for Fort Regent's redevelopment next month. The project, overseen by the JDC but still government-owned, aims to revitalize the historic site. Early statements suggest the plans will focus on all-weather facilities but exclude a swimming pool.
Residents have expressed a desire for family-friendly activities. Parents Carla Jones and Lauren Byrne envision spaces like an indoor shopping center with affordable entertainment options for children. Sisters Mel Le Boutillier and Julia Falle, who run gymnastics clubs at the fort, hope for a return to the building's sports-focused roots. However, they worry prolonged closures could leave the site inactive for years.
Fort Regent’s current decline is noticeable, with sports clubs scheduled to vacate by the end of 2025. Local performer Jax Quenault advocates for a performance venue to attract large-scale shows. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister John Le Fondré emphasized the need for commercially viable plans that engage the community and allow partial public access during renovations.
Past proposals, including ideas for a casino, hotel, and winter garden, were abandoned in 2021 due to economic concerns.
