Free Bus Travel for Veterans on Remembrance Sunday
Veterans in Jersey will be able to travel for free on LibertyBus services this Sunday as they attend Remembrance Day ceremonies across the island.
The bus company said the initiative was part of its ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, which supports members of the armed forces community.
Kevin Hart, Director of LibertyBus, said the gesture was intended to recognise the service and sacrifice of veterans and to make it easier for everyone to take part in commemorations.
“Providing free travel on Remembrance Sunday is our way of recognising their service and sacrifice and ensuring that everyone who wishes to attend the commemorations can do so with ease,” Mr Hart
said.
Veterans will need to show their veteran’s ID card when boarding to qualify for free travel.
Mr Hart added:
“We recognise the importance of this day for so many islanders, and we hope that by offering this small gesture, we can help bring people together to honour those who have served and those who continue to serve. It’s a privilege for us to help veterans, their families, and the community mark this occasion with the respect it deserves.”
Lt Col Tim Daniels, Chairman of the Royal British Legion Jersey Branch, welcomed the initiative, saying it helped ensure the whole community could take part in the day’s events.
“It means a great deal to veterans and reflects the regard of the community for their service,” he said.
