Tired passengers urge for bus stop closer to beach

Holidaymakers and locals are urging transport chiefs in Jersey to reinstate a bus stop at Plemont Bay, saying the current drop-off point leaves them with a long and tiring walk to the beach.
For the past five years, passengers travelling on the route have been dropped at the Plemont junction, about three-quarters of a mile from the bay. The final stretch must then be done on foot — a challenge some say spoils the experience.
Resident Basil Carre, who lives at the top of the road leading to Plemont, says many beachgoers are left “exhausted” by the detour.
“We always had a bus running right to the headland, but after Covid it was never brought back,” he explained. “We’ve even had to give people lifts in recent years. On several occasions, visitors have been shocked to find they can’t reach such a popular tourist spot by bus.”
Visitors are split on the issue. French tourist Erwin Devaux described the walk as unsafe, warning that “cars are very quick” along the road. Others, like Jill Harbord, said the stroll was manageable but admitted it made the day less enjoyable.
Bus operator LibertyBus, however, defended its position. Managing director Kevin Hart said the narrow road leading to the beach was damaging vehicles and causing delays, making a return to the old route impractical.
While frustrated passengers continue to call for change, the future of a direct service to Plemont Bay remains uncertain.
