Emergency services across Jersey are continuing clean-up operations this morning after Storm Goretti brought damaging winds overnight.

Jersey Met recorded peak gusts of up to 95mph, but has since downgraded the island’s wind warning to orange, with conditions expected to steadily improve throughout the day.

Teams are working to clear fallen trees and debris from roads, though authorities warn that further hazards are being reported as commuters begin their journeys. Drivers are urged to take extra care and check the EmergencyWorx system for the latest updates.

Some schools have delayed opening this morning while head teachers complete safety checks. Parents of affected pupils

are being contacted directly by schools. The States’ policy remains that schools will open where it is safe to do so.

University Hospital Jersey plans to operate normal services today, but both the hospital and emergency department are under significant pressure. Islanders are being asked to attend only in genuine emergencies.

The west of the island appears to have suffered the worst of the storm, although no storm-related injuries have been reported.

Transport disruption

There will be no school bus services this morning due to blocked routes. Liberty Bus has confirmed that its regular bus network is operating, but passengers are advised to check the company’s website and social media channels for any last-minute changes.

Storm Goretti helpline

A dedicated helpline has been set up to deal with non-emergency queries related to the storm. It is available today between 7am and 5pm on 01534 448844. Emergency lines should be kept free for urgent situations.
