Jersey Electricity Halts Solar Farm Plans Amid Public Concerns
Jersey Electricity has temporarily withdrawn its planning application for a proposed solar farm in St. Mary following public concerns over its impact on the countryside.
The project, which aimed to install 10,000 photovoltaic panels across 22 acres of agricultural land, sparked opposition from parishioners who voiced objections during a public consultation.
Despite claims that the solar farm could generate enough energy to power nearly 1,200 homes, the plan faced scrutiny, with concerns raised about the use of rural land for the development.
In a statement, Jersey Electricity cited late feedback from a statutory consultee as a key reason for the decision, explaining that there was not enough time to respond adequately.
"Jersey Electricity has taken the decision to temporarily withdraw the Planning Application for the proposed solar farm at Champs Verts, St Mary," the company said. "We fully intend to resubmit the application in due course."
It remains to be seen how the company will address the concerns raised before reintroducing the proposal.
