New speed camera equipment, designed to curb antisocial driving and improve road safety, is scheduled to be introduced by the end of the year.
Officers from the States police are undergoing training to support the rollout of the technology, which is part of the government’s Collision and Casualty Reduction Plan. This strategy places emphasis on reducing road casualties and deterring dangerous driving, particularly by targeting high-speed offenders.
The plan highlights the role of safety cameras in automating speed enforcement, identifying reckless driving behaviours, and discouraging repeat offences. By focusing resources on the highest-risk areas, officials aim to create a stronger deterrent effect and promote safer driving across Jersey’s road network.
The deployment of the camera has been discussed at States level and welcomed by parish representatives, who see it as a valuable tool in addressing speeding, especially in rural communities.
The initiative is being supported by Infrastructure and Environment, with delivery and sourcing overseen by the Infrastructure Minister.
