Emergency services carried out a late-night search off Jersey's west coast after receiving reports of a possible person in the water.

The operation began at around 9:45pm on Wednesday near La Braye, prompting a multi-agency response involving Jersey Coastguard, the fire service and police.

Two lifeboats, drones and other rescue resources were deployed to search the area.

Despite an extensive operation, no-one was found. The search was suspended shortly after 11:00pm as fading light and deteriorating visibility brought the effort to an end.

Jersey Coastguard said the initial report could not be confirmed but believed it had been made in good faith.

The coastguard added that the search would remain suspended unless further information comes to light.
