Jersey War Tunnels has submitted plans to expand its museum facilities and reorganise parking at the historic site.

The proposals would extend the museum into the existing car park, providing additional space for exhibits and artefacts. The plans follow a public consultation that gathered views on potential improvements to the attraction.

Built during the Second World War by enslaved workers from across Europe, the hillside tunnels bear witness to the German Occupation of the Channel Islands.

According to the proposals, the expansion would allow important historical objects to be displayed in more suitable conditions, as the existing tunnels are not appropriate for housing certain items.

The scheme includes an extension to the visitor centre and the demolition of a single-storey office building. It also proposes road safety improvements, including designated pedestrian routes and crossing points.

TSA, the company appointed to develop the plans, said no changes were proposed to the historically listed underground tunnel complex.

The proposals are due to be considered at a later date.
