Grouville Parish Steps In to Save Sandy Park
A well-loved beachside play area at Long Beach has been secured for the future after parishioners in Grouville voted to take over its upkeep.
Sandy Park, which had faced potential closure after the Infrastructure department chose not to renew its lease, will now remain open thanks to a decision made at a packed Parish Assembly held on Wednesday evening.
Residents were asked to approve funding to cover refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of the facility. The proposal, led by Grouville Constable Mark Labey, received strong support, with ratepayers agreeing to allocate £9,000 for immediate repairs to the equipment and fencing, and a further £3,500 annually for maintenance.
Constable Labey highlighted the shortage of play areas in the east of the island and stressed the importance of preserving the park for families and young children in the community.
The vote ensures Sandy Park will continue to serve as a key recreational space for locals and visitors along the coast.
