Jersey records hottest summer since records began

Jersey has experienced its hottest summer since records began in 1894, according to Jersey Met.
The average temperature across June, July and August reached 20.5C, well above the 30-year average of 17.7C.
Temperatures peaked at 39.3C on 25 June, while days above 30C were recorded 13 times. Meteorologists also reported three heatwaves during the summer.
The previous record was set in 2022, when the summer average reached 19.6C.
Jersey also recorded its second-sunniest summer, with 986 hours of sunshine. The record remains with 1976, when 999 hours were recorded.
Rainfall was below average at 106.9mm, compared with the 1991-2020 average of 158mm. However, it was significantly wetter than the 9.8mm recorded during the drought of 1976.
Jersey Met's Paul Aked said this summer shared similarities with 1976, but 2026 had been hotter, with more heatwaves and higher peak temperatures.
Regional meteorologists said the figures reflected wider evidence that climate change is contributing to hotter summers and an increased risk of drier conditions.
