Assistant Chief Minister Deputy Carina Alves has announced updated guidance aimed at making it easier for employers to secure registered and licensed permissions for new staff. The revised rules also broaden the list of professions eligible for licensed status.

Under the new framework, employers will be able to obtain a licence for full-time roles paying at least £54,000, allowing employees in those positions to rent qualified housing. Roles with salaries of £60,000 or more will give employees access to both renting and purchasing options within the qualified property market.

A number of lower-paid roles are now also eligible to apply for Licensed permissions, with the updated guidelines outlining which positions fall under the expanded criteria.

Deputy Alves said the changes were designed to streamline the system and better support local businesses:“Government needs to ensure that hiring staff is as straightforward as possible. We have taken on board feedback from employers and introduced clearer, more accessible guidance. For the first time, we’re also publishing a list of roles exempt from the usual salary thresholds.

“As a former teacher, I’m particularly pleased that the extension of licensed roles includes educational support staff and nursery workers. We’ve also widened eligibility for healthcare roles to help providers recruit more easily.”

The revised Business Licensing & Employee Status guidance is available on the gov.je website under the “Employing Staff (registration cards)” section.
