Plans have been approved to convert a long-closed town centre pub into a new residential development in St Helier.

The former Tipsy Toad Town House will be transformed into 15 flats, along with three short-stay visitor units. While the interior of the building will be completely redesigned, developers have confirmed the distinctive Art Deco-style frontage will be preserved.

The property has stood empty since 2019, after previously operating as a pub and live music venue. Planning documents noted the business struggled financially and changed ownership several times before closing its doors.

As part of the redevelopment, space will be created for bicycle, motorbike and refuse storage, though no parking bays for cars are included in the plans.

Developers said the project would not only bring much-needed housing into the area but also provide a welcome boost to the local construction sector.
