Prisoner Art Exhibition to Open in St Helier Artwork created by inmates at La Moye will be unveiled to the public next week in a new exhibition titled Inside Out 17.

Organised by the States of Jersey Prison Service in partnership with ArtHouse Jersey, the showcase will run at Capital House from 5 to 21 September, closing on Mondays.

The collection highlights the personal journeys, emotions and reflections of prisoners, with each piece offering a window into life behind bars. The initiative is part of the prison’s education programme, which uses creative learning to support rehabilitation.

Prison art teacher Lucy Blackmore said the project played an important role in helping inmates build confidence and find new direction. “Exhibiting their work motivates and engages prisoners in positive activity,” she explained. “It encourages self-esteem, supports behaviour management, and opens the door to further education — all of which can lead to lasting change.”
