A group of politicians has published a report responding to the housing minister’s proposed changes to Jersey’s rental tenancy law.
Deputy Sam Mézec has suggested reforms that include capping annual rent increases at 5%.
However, the panel that reviews housing policy has put forward 18 recommendations and nine amendments to his plans. The panel warned that some landlords already view the rent cap as too restrictive, and therefore proposed an amendment to ensure the cap could not be reduced further if the changes are approved.
States members are expected to vote on both the housing minister’s proposals and the panel’s suggested changes in September.
