Families are being urged to remain vigilant after a man reportedly attempted to collect a child from a primary school in Jersey.

Grouville School headteacher Nichola Turner alerted parents to what she described as a “very concerning incident” involving a Year 6 pupil on Monday. She said an unknown man approached the child and claimed he knew their mother, telling them he had come to take them home.

According to Ms Turner, the pupil handled the situation appropriately, refusing the request and saying “No, thank you”, after which the man left the area.

Jersey Police confirmed they are looking into the incident and reminded parents and carers to reinforce safety advice with children. Officers said youngsters should be encouraged not to interact with strangers and to seek help from a trusted adult if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
