Police are urging island residents to lock their cars following two vehicle thefts on New Year’s Day, believed to be linked to “joyriding.”

States of Jersey Police reported that a blue Audi and a silver Honda Jazz were stolen from a property in St Saviour. While the Honda was later recovered in Vallée des Vaux, the Audi remains missing.

Officers said the thefts appeared to have been carried out by a small group of young people taking cars for joyrides.

Authorities are advising motorists, particularly in St Saviour and Five Oaks—areas seeing a rise in vehicle thefts—to take extra precautions.

A police spokesperson warned: “There is a risk to residents, and failing to secure a car properly could invalidate insurance if it is stolen, damaged, or causes damage. Although Jersey is generally a very safe place, some individuals still choose to commit crimes. Let’s not make it easy for them.”
