Jersey Airport Set for New Safety Upgrades to Roads and Pedestrian Areas

Work is set to get underway this week to make roads around Jersey Airport safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

Ports of Jersey (PoJ) has announced a series of improvements designed to slow down traffic and create safer crossing points throughout the airport site.

The project includes installing a chicane on the approach to the departures building, adding new speed cushions, enhancing lighting, and updating road markings.

Ashley Maggs, Airport Operations Director, said the upgrades aim to “protect people while they are moving around the site.”

As the improvements progress, the airport also plans to introduce clearer separation between vehicles and pedestrian areas, better cycle routes, and a covered bike storage facility near the departures terminal.

Further changes are on the horizon, with a planning application expected within the next month for works around the former hangar site.

In addition, the blue curved wall in the arrivals parking area is due to be removed in the spring, creating a more open and welcoming space.

According to Mr Maggs, passengers leaving the arrivals terminal will soon enjoy open views of the runway along with sheltered waiting areas for taxis and buses, making onward journeys more comfortable.
