Jersey parents can now submit applications for a new childcare support scheme that could provide thousands of pounds to help cover nursery and childminder costs for children aged two to three.

According to the Government of Jersey, families with children eligible between January and August 2026 may receive up to £4,180. Those whose children qualify for the full academic year starting 1 September 2026 could access as much as £6,270.

To apply, parents must provide their Social Security and tax identification numbers, along with their child’s Social Security number and a payment receipt from a registered nursery or childminder. Officials said payments would be issued within four weeks once an application is approved.

The scheme is open to all parents regardless of income, employment, or residency status. However, families will need to pay childcare fees upfront and claim the money back later after proposals to pay providers directly were not approved.

The Jersey Child Care Trust has raised concerns that some households may struggle to cover the initial costs. The charity said it plans to offer upfront financial support to families who cannot afford to pay in advance.

Authorities added that applications can be made at any point during a child’s eligibility period, with full guidance on the process available on the government’s website.
