No Public Big Screen in Jersey for Remaining 2026 World Cup Matches

Football fans in Jersey will not have access to a public outdoor big screen for the rest of the 2026 World Cup, the Government of Jersey has confirmed.
In recent years, supporters have gathered at Howard Davis Park to watch major sporting events, including Euro 2024, the Paris 2024 Olympics and the Women’s Euro 2025 tournament.
While the government has contributed some funding to the big screen project in previous years, officials said the event was largely supported by a private organiser.
However, the organiser has been unable to secure the additional sponsorship required to stage the event this time around, meaning there will be no public screening area for the tournament.
A government spokesperson said the decision not to provide further taxpayer funding was influenced by the timing of the remaining fixtures, with many matches expected to take place late in the evening and into the night.
“Given the kick-off times of the remaining matches are generally less suitable for families and could run well into the night, additional taxpayer funding would not be appropriate,” the spokesperson said.
Fans will still have opportunities to watch the matches together, with a number of pubs and bars in St Helier and across the island extending their licences to show World Cup fixtures.
The government said these venues will provide alternative locations for supporters wanting to experience the tournament atmosphere.
