St Helier Sees Most Road Accidents in Jersey, Report Reveals

A new government report has highlighted that the majority of road accidents in Jersey last year occurred in St Helier.

The Government of Jersey has released its first-ever Collision and Casualty Reduction Plan, which aims to cut the number of serious injuries and fatalities on the island’s roads by 50% over the next ten years.

According to the report, a total of 188 collisions were recorded across Jersey’s 12 parishes in 2023, resulting in 214 casualties. St Helier had the highest number of incidents, with 71 crashes, followed by 30 in St Saviour. In contrast, the parishes of Trinity, St Mary, and Grouville each recorded just three collisions.

Paving the Way for Safer Roads

The government says this strategy is just the beginning, with an ultimate objective of achieving Vision Zero—a future where no one is seriously injured or killed in road incidents.

Infrastructure Minister Connétable Andy Jehan described the plan as a milestone for Jersey’s road safety efforts.

“I am delighted to see this initiative, the first of its kind, being introduced. Every life lost on our roads is one too many, and this plan is a firm commitment to reducing harm and protecting our community,” he said.

He emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

"By working together, we can create a road network that prioritises safety and ultimately saves lives," he added.
