Residents of Jersey can now explore whether their rooftops are suitable for solar panels, thanks to a new interactive map launched by the Government of Jersey.

The online tool allows homeowners to check their property’s potential for solar energy, providing a useful starting point before committing to installation.

Using advanced 3D modelling, the map simulates the Sun’s movement throughout the year, highlighting areas with strong sunlight exposure that are more suitable for solar panels. Shaded areas, on the other hand, may not be ideal. Officials caution, however, that the map is intended as a guide and should not replace a professional assessment.

Some properties are not included on the map, including listed buildings unlikely to receive planning permission and structures such as polytunnels and glasshouses, which cannot support solar panels.
