Free Water Refill Station Installed in Jersey as Part of Sustainability Efforts
A new water fountain allowing free bottle refills has been installed in Jersey, marking the first step in an initiative to create a broader network of refill stations across the island. Jersey Water announced the installation of the fountain behind St John's Church in St John’s Village, aimed at cutting down on single-use plastic bottle consumption. The station was set up in partnership with the St John Youth and Community Trust, which also contributed to the funding.
Martin Skyba, Jersey Water’s network manager, shared that the company plans to expand the project, with proposals already in the works for refill stations in Howard Davis Park and St Brelade’s Bay.
“These fountains provide easy access to free water refills, helping to reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles, which is a win for the environment,” said Skyba. “Our goal is to install at least two new fountains each year in popular locations across the island.”
Julia Williams from the St John Youth and Community Trust expressed pride in the project. “It’s a positive contribution to the community and a great legacy for the trust, which has long supported local initiatives in the parish,” she said.
