From 12 May, customers sending parcels through Jersey Post could face a £5 surcharge if their items are not packaged correctly.
The postal service announced the new fee will apply to large parcels up to 30kg that are not sent in a cardboard box, citing increased handling costs as the reason.
According to Jersey Post, the charge has been introduced at the request of its delivery partners, who have highlighted the extra work involved in manually processing items that cannot pass through automated sorting systems.
Properly boxed parcels, the company said, can be handled more efficiently, reducing delays and the need for manual sorting.
Customers are being encouraged to consult Jersey Post’s large parcel packaging guide to ensure their items meet the new standards and avoid the additional charge.
The move comes as logistics firms across the sector continue to streamline operations and reduce manual handling in response to growing parcel volumes.
