A new council has been created in Jersey to guide the island’s approach to artificial intelligence (AI) and support its roll-out across key sectors.
Digital Jersey has announced the launch of the AI Council, which will serve as a central body to coordinate AI-related projects and strategies between government, industry and regulatory organisations. The group aims to encourage collaboration, share expertise and ensure the technology is developed responsibly.
According to Digital Jersey, the council’s role will include helping organisations harness the opportunities offered by AI while managing potential risks. It will also develop a roadmap drawing on the knowledge of its members to support businesses and public services adopting the technology.
The council brings together representatives from a range of bodies, including the Government of Jersey, Jersey Finance, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, the Jersey AI Forum, the Office of the Information Commissioner and the Institute of Directors.
“Many organisations recognise the importance of AI and are making progress"
Tony Moretta, chief executive of Digital Jersey and chair of the council, said the island is at a critical point in its AI journey.
“Many organisations recognise the importance of AI and are making progress, but efforts remain disconnected,” he said. “By working collectively, we can achieve far more than by acting alone. Collaboration is key to realising the full potential of this technology for Jersey.”
