Mystery Delays Leave Jersey Amazon Customers Waiting Weeks for Deliveries

Multiple factors have been cited for the ongoing delays affecting Amazon deliveries to Jersey, but the exact cause remains unclear.

Customers in Jersey are frequently being given significantly longer estimated delivery times than shoppers ordering the same items in the UK or Guernsey. In many cases, orders remain marked as “ordered” for days—or even more than a week, before being dispatched from Amazon warehouses, even for Prime members who previously benefited from faster shipping.

Despite repeated queries, no single explanation has been confirmed. Amazon has pointed to several possible causes, including severe weather, UK customs checks, increased inspections over the Christmas period, limited transport options, and wider shipping logistics issues. However, Jersey Post has said it is confident that customs are not responsible for the delays.

Test purchases highlight the scale of the problem. Orders of an Amazon Fire TV Stick placed on Wednesday, 7 January, showed a delivery date difference of 10 days when compared with identical orders sent to UK addresses. Some deliveries to Jersey have taken more than two weeks, with the issue particularly noticeable during the Christmas period.

Frustrated islanders have taken to social media to question what has changed. One user wrote that “something has happened since early December 2025” and suggested Amazon was deliberately delaying dispatches to Jersey. Others questioned why orders were taking eight to ten days to leave Amazon’s depots at all.

Screenshots shared online show Amazon customer service agents attributing delays to customs checks at UK ports, limited transport options, and shipping logistics. Jersey Post, however, says it only becomes responsible for parcels once they have been dispatched and insists there are no operational or customs issues once items enter its network.

In a statement made to Channel 103, an Amazon UK spokesperson said: “We’re aware of delays in delivering to the Channel Islands, which have been caused by severe weather. We’re urgently working with our carriers and delivery partners on this, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Jersey Post added: “Aside from the impact of recent ferry delays, we are confident there are no specific operational issues, capacity constraints or customs issues affecting goods once dispatched by Amazon, and Jersey Post continues to meet its normal Amazon service standards.”

The Jersey Consumer Council says it first became aware of the problem in November and raised concerns with the government, Customs and Jersey Post, all of whom initially reported no issues. Since then, however, complaints have increased.

Chairman Carl Walker said investigations are ongoing to identify where the breakdown may be occurring: “It’s a tricky one, because Jersey Post and Amazon are both saying ‘it’s not us’, so something in the chain is impacting this. Customs, ferry operators and potentially haulage companies are all part of that journey.

“Given the high cost of shopping locally, some people rely on Amazon for groceries and essential items. We need to get this resolved.”
