Jersey Cyclist Urges First Aid Training After Friends Save His Life

Jersey cyclist Kevin Clyde Smith is urging people to learn first aid after his friends’ quick actions saved his life during a trip to France.

Smith, 72, collapsed from a cardiac arrest in St Malo last June. His friends—one of whom had recently taken a CPR course—kept him alive by performing chest compressions until lifeguards arrived with a defibrillator. He was later rushed to a specialist cardiology hospital for emergency surgery.

Grateful for their efforts, Smith emphasised the importance of first aid knowledge and plans to commemorate the life-saving event by redoing the cycling trip with his friends.
