St Martin Joins Majority of Parishes with kerbside Recycling
Residents in St Martin will soon benefit from kerbside recycling collection, narrowing the number of parishes without the service to just two.
The Parish Assembly confirmed that recyclable materials—such as paper, cardboard, and plastics—will now be collected directly from residents’ homes. The cost of the service will be covered through the parish’s annual rates.
With the rollout in St Martin, ten of Jersey’s twelve parishes now provide kerbside recycling, leaving only St Ouen and St Clement still requiring residents to transport their recycling to drop-off points. Both parishes currently only offer glass collection.
Details of the new collection schedule will be published on the St Martin parish website.
Parish Constable Karen Shenton-Stone expressed her enthusiasm for the long-awaited initiative, which was originally approved in 2021 but postponed due to contractor availability.
“Kerbside recycling is already part of daily life in nine other parishes, and St Martin is pleased to be joining this near island-wide effort to reduce, re-use, and recycle,” she said. “I’d like to thank parishioners for their patience and support as we worked to make this important service a reality.”
