Calls for Tech Upgrades at Jersey Opera House
A performing arts group has warned that without modern technical equipment, high-quality productions will not be possible at the refurbished Jersey Opera House.
The Performing Arts Development Group (PADG) urged the Chief Minister to fund upgrades before the venue’s planned reopening in September. The Opera House said it needed an additional £1.5m for completion, but the government requested more information before approving funds.
Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said the venue could open with its current technology while further assessments were made. However, PADG Chair Tim Evans stressed that outdated sound, lighting, and communication systems would limit performances.
Morel also noted that only one supplier had provided a quote, making it difficult for the government to justify the expense. Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham said he hoped a solution could be found to secure the best equipment while allowing performances to resume.
