Jersey Sees Sharp Drop in Visitor Numbers This May

Jersey welcomed significantly fewer visitors this May, with new data showing a 25% year-on-year decline compared to the same month in 2024.

According to Visit Jersey’s latest Visitor Volume Survey, the island recorded 53,300 visits in May 2025, down from 70,600 during the same period last year—a decrease of more than 17,000.

The figures reflect a broader downward trend, with total visitor numbers in the first five months of 2025 down by 14% compared to the same period in 2024.

Visit Jersey, the island’s official tourism and marketing body, attributed much of the decline to a sharp fall in sea travel, with 17,400 fewer sea passengers arriving between January and May.

The survey also revealed that the number of overnight stays had dropped by 29,600 nights, representing a 10% fall compared to last year. However, the average length of stay increased slightly—from four nights in early 2024 to 4.3 nights in the same period this year.

In terms of departures, 93,700 passengers left Jersey in May, marking a 16% decrease—or 15,100 fewer people—than in May 2024.

These figures continue a pattern noted in earlier reports, with similar declines recorded in both March and April.

Visit Jersey said it continues to monitor trends closely and is exploring strategies to reinvigorate travel demand across both air and sea routes.
