Charity Support “Life-Changing” for Jersey Boy With Epilepsy

A Jersey family says the care provided by a local charity has transformed life for their five-year-old son, who suffers from a rare form of epilepsy.

Samuel Buchanan was diagnosed with epileptic encephalopathy after he began having severe seizures last year. The condition, which affects development and behaviour, has required repeated hospital visits, including specialist treatment in Southampton.

Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) now supports the Buchanans at home, helping with Samuel’s nasogastric tube and training his school staff to respond in an emergency. His mother Jenny said the team’s visits “make a huge difference,” turning frightening moments into manageable ones.

Samuel’s father Jack added: “We’re very fortunate – a year ago life was very different, but with the support we’re in a much happier place.”

FNHC said its aim is to reduce hospital visits and make treatment less traumatic for children like Samuel.
