Liberty Wharf sold as new owner plans major future for St Helier site

Liberty Wharf has been sold to a Jersey-based property company that says it wants to create “new reasons to visit” the St Helier development.
Daisy Hill Real Estates has acquired the historic site, which began life as an abattoir before being transformed into a shopping and mixed-use centre. The property had been operated by leaseholders SandpiperCI since 2018.
Daisy Hill was previously the owner of the Jersey War Tunnels for more than 60 years, before the attraction was sold to Trevellyan Operations in 2025.
The company’s director, Phil Dawes, said work had been under way since the acquisition earlier this year to establish a “clear vision and long-term strategy” for Liberty Wharf.
He described the site as an important link between the Waterfront and St Helier’s retail, business and visitor areas.
“Liberty Wharf has significant potential and an important role to play in the continued evolution of the town centre,” Mr Dawes said.
The company has been working with local stakeholders and specialist advisers from Jersey and the UK to examine how the site could be developed into a distinctive mixed-use destination.
Mr Dawes stressed that the plans remain at an early stage, but said there was considerable enthusiasm for making better use of the location and increasing its contribution to St Helier.
He also said the businesses already operating at Liberty Wharf would remain an important part of its future.
“Our ambition is to build on what works today while introducing new reasons to visit, spend time and return,” he said.
The aim, he added, was to create a destination that reflects modern Island life and remains relevant throughout the year.
Mr Dawes said the redevelopment would be a long-term project and that the company was taking a “considered approach” before revealing further details.
He said the owners were excited by Liberty Wharf’s potential and its ability to make a positive contribution to St Helier and the wider Island in the years ahead.
