The number of jobs in Jersey has risen by 440 over the past year, bringing total employment on the island to 65,790, according to the latest figures from Statistics Jersey.

The organisation's latest labour market report, covering June 2026, showed that 55,740 jobs were in the private sector, while the public sector accounted for 10,050.

The biggest growth in private sector employment was recorded in private education, health and other services, which added 440 jobs over the year.

Financial and legal activities also saw an increase, with employment rising by 80 jobs.

However, these gains were partly offset by a fall in employment across other industries. Wholesale and retail lost 130 jobs, while hotels, restaurants and bars recorded a reduction of 50.

The figures also highlighted longer-term growth in Jersey's jobs market, with total employment increasing by 3,250 jobs, or 5.2%, compared with five years ago.

Of this increase, 1,990 jobs were added in the private sector and 1,260 in the public sector.

During the year to June 2026, private sector employment grew by 330 jobs, representing a rise of 0.6%. Public sector employment increased by 110 jobs, or 1.1%.

Statistics Jersey said the growth in public sector employment was mainly driven by an increase in core staff at Health and Care Jersey.

This was partly offset by reductions in staffing levels across other government departments.
