A newly redeveloped basketball court at Millennium Town Park has officially opened, honouring the memory of former Jersey player and coach Guillaume Hoareau, who died aged 40 in 2024 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against Guernsey.

Named the 'G Court', the colourful outdoor facility aims to bring the community together while celebrating Guillaume's passion for basketball and his positive impact on island life.

Jersey Basketball Association President Paul Milbank said the court reflected everything Guillaume stood for, describing him as a fun-loving character who brought people together.

A fundraising campaign launched after his death raised more than its £25,000 target, with additional government funding helping make the project possible.

Designed by local firm ANY, the court's colours pay tribute to Guillaume's home island of Réunion.

Plans are also in place for a commemorative plaque and artwork created by young islanders, ensuring his legacy continues for future generations.
