Parents and carers in Jersey are being invited to attend talks on how to help children navigate social media and online content safely.

The free sessions, led by mental health campaigner Natasha Devon, will take place at 18:00 on Tuesday at Jersey College for Girls and on Wednesday at Beaulieu Church. Both events will also be available to watch online.

The talks aim to support families in setting healthy digital boundaries through open and constructive conversations. According to the States of Jersey, the initiative forms part of the Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) department’s efforts to promote wellbeing and online safety for young people across the island.

Organisers said parents and carers would also gain insights into the advice Ms Devon is delivering in schools, along with practical ways to help children handle online content.

Alongside the talks, a play commissioned by the NSPCC will tour 28 schools during the weeks beginning 22 and 29 September. The production is designed to improve young people’s understanding of online safety and issues around self-generated images.

Those wishing to attend either session are encouraged to register online.
