Jersey’s main energy supplier is set to be prosecuted in connection with a house explosion, according to the Health and Safety Inspectorate.
Island Energy, which operates locally under the name Jersey Gas, will face a criminal charge under Article 21 of the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989. The allegation centres on an alleged failure to safeguard the health and safety of people outside its employment, including members of the public.
The case relates to an incident in June 2024, when an explosion tore through a property in St Saviour, leaving the building partially destroyed. Two adults and two children were rescued from the scene and transported to hospital.
The upcoming prosecution follows a detailed investigation by safety officials. The matter is scheduled to be presented before Jersey’s Magistrates’ Court on 4 December.
