Jersey families invited to claim up to £150 school support payment

A new financial support scheme is now open for Jersey households to help cover the rising cost of preparing children for the upcoming school year.

The Back to School Bonus will provide a one-off payment of up to £150 per child to assist with essentials such as uniforms, stationery, and other school-related costs. The scheme applies to children from reception through to Year 11.

The funding was announced in April by the previous government as part of wider efforts to support households not receiving income support, targeting families with a combined annual income of £75,000 or less.

According to the Government of Jersey, the initiative is intended to ease pressure linked to ongoing cost-of-living challenges. Primary school pupils will qualify for £100 each, while secondary school pupils will receive £150.

Families who receive income support do not need to apply, as payments will be made automatically in August. Those who are eligible under the income threshold must submit an application by Friday 31 July, with payments expected to reach bank accounts the following month.

The scheme has been promoted as a short-term measure to help families manage back-to-school expenses ahead of the new academic year.
