Jersey Sees Record Number of People Seeking Homelessness Support
The number of people reaching out for homelessness support in Jersey has surpassed 300 for the first time since official data collection began.
According to the latest government report, a total of 321 service visits were recorded in the first quarter of 2025, made by 304 individual islanders seeking help from government and charitable homelessness services. This marks the highest figure since quarterly tracking began early last year.
The number has steadily increased over time—from an initial count of 220 in early 2024, rising to 295 by the end of the year.

Demographics and Contributing Factors
The data reveals that approximately three-quarters of those seeking support are men, most commonly aged between their mid-20s and mid-30s. For women, the highest proportion are under the age of 25. The leading cause cited by women was the need to escape domestic abuse, while men more frequently reported issues related to substance use and mental health.
Interestingly, employment does not shield many from housing insecurity—28% of those recorded (76 individuals) were in work at the time they sought help.
Accommodation Provided
Between January and March, over 180 islanders were provided with accommodation, with the majority remaining in residence throughout the three-month period.
The report highlights a persistent and growing strain on homelessness services across the island, with professionals calling for more sustainable housing options and targeted support for vulnerable groups.
