Two Jersey charities are celebrating a decade of their popular annual swimming challenge by adding a new way for people to explore the island’s coastline.
The National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Hospice Care have announced that the 30 Bays Summer Challenge, formerly known as 30 Bays in 30 Days, will return with an extra activity for participants - a “Tide and Seek” scavenger hunt.
The new addition invites people to search for hidden symbols placed on beach signs around the island’s bays, giving those who may not want to complete the full swimming challenge another way to take part.
The event was extended last year from one month to two, allowing more islanders to join in at their own pace.
Liana Summers-Shaw from the National Trust for Jersey said the challenge was open to everyone and highlighted the benefits of spending time outdoors.
“30 Bays is all about appreciating Jersey’s beautiful coastline and enjoying nature,” she said.
“Those looking for a fast-paced challenge can swim at every bay within 30 days, following the original format, while others can take a more relaxed approach and complete it over the two-month event period.
“People can also simply visit the bays for Tide and Seek, take a photograph, or enjoy a mindful moment by the sea.”
The opening swim event will take place on Sunday at 10:00 BST at Greve de Lecq, marking the start of this year’s challenge.
Marina Brockbank from Jersey Hospice Care said events like 30 Bays played an important role in helping both charities continue to provide specialist services across the island.
“Every person who takes part is not only enriching their own wellbeing but also making a real difference to our two amazing charities,” she said.
“It’s a wonderful way to come together, enjoy Jersey’s coastline, and support causes that touch so many lives.”
