Jersey Post is encouraging islanders to send their Christmas cards and gifts early as it gears up for its busiest season.
The postal service reported that November and December see a 30% increase in deliveries due to Black Friday sales and holiday shipments, with posties handling between 50,000 and 65,000 items at peak times. Mondays and Tuesdays are particularly busy.
Managing Director Julie Thomas advised residents to mail items early to avoid the holiday rush. “We’re prepared for a busy period,” she said, noting that extra staff have been hired and additional space created to handle larger parcels.
To help prevent delays, Jersey Post recommends that residents sign up for SecureDrop so parcels can be left in a safe spot if they’re not home. Additionally, any Goods and Services Tax (GST) for items over £60 should be paid promptly. Mail sent to the UK or internationally should be accurately labeled and meet weight and size requirements.
