I was always the drunkest at the party

Harry Gurd, 24, is sharing his journey of recovery from substance abuse to inspire others battling addiction.

After years of struggles with alcohol, drugs, and gambling, he sought help from Jersey-based charity Silkworth last year and began boxing training as part of his recovery.

On Saturday, Harry will participate in his first fight at a white-collar boxing event at the Merton Hotel, raising funds for Silkworth. “Health and fitness have been at the heart of my recovery,” he said, crediting the charity and the boxing gym for helping him rebuild his life.

Cameron Elliott, founder of the gym and a fellow recovery advocate, praised Harry as a “walking example” of overcoming addiction and inspiring others.
